Other breeds may suit your lifestyle beter
Golden Retrievers are not well-suited to apartment life.
If your home doesn't have a yard or a garden for your goldens to romp and play in, a golden retriever may not be the right dog for you. You might be better off with with a smaller dog like a Yorkie, a French Bulldog, or even a russell terrier (if you have plenty of time and a place near home where he/she can run off-leash for exercise.
Goldens are very friendly
While goldens may bark at strangers outside your garden gate to give you some warning of an intruder, they are more likely to lick the intruder to death than bite them. So if it's an attack dog you are looking for, you may want to consider another breed like a German Shepherd.
Golden Retrievers require a lot of exercise
If your home doesn't have a good sized yard for your goldens to romp and play in, or if you don't have the time or energy to exercise your dog to the point of (its) exhaustion every day, a golden retriever may not be the right dog for you. You might be better off with with a Yorkie, or a French Bulldog.
